In this video you can see me setting up and moving chairs and desks around for the shot I wanted. You can also see me talking to my camera woman and telling her the kinds of shots I need and directing her on what I want from her. You can also see me directing my actors on the kind of dialogue and emotions I want from them in certain scenes and explaining to them what their characters are currently going through and their background stories to help the actors fulfil their jobs. I am also referring back to my storyboard on the type of shots I need and want, making sure that I am filming everything I need. In one point of the video you can also see me helping my camera woman white balance the camera and adjust the exposures.

For the sound aspect of my trailer, I decided that I would record everything myself like the background music, sound effects and voice over. This is so that I wouldn't need to search for copyright free sounds, nor would I need to pay a fee to use certain sounds.
For the voice over I have decide to let the actor, Charlie, improvised over it. I gave him some tips on how his character is currently feeling and what I wanted him to say. I also gave home some sentences to maybe say, but overall I just wanted him to improvise over it so I didn't write a script.

Storyboard:
Before filming I made sure to draw out a rough storyboard. This storyboard helped me a lot during filming as it gave me an idea on what kind of shots I need, and it also helped me imagine how the final piece would look like. I always carried the storyboard around when filming as not only it gave me on the shots I needed to film, it also helped me know how long I needed each shot to be and what I should I film first; the storyboard made sure I didn't forget to film any shots. The storyboard also helped me know what kind of atmosphere I wanted for each shot, making it easier for me to direct my actors.

I also used the storyboard when I was editing as it showed me how the film trailer should look like after all the shots are edited together. The storyboard also helped me organise my shots and tell me where each shot should be and how long each should be as well. The storyboard also acted as my reference whilst editing so I knew what the final product should look like and if I was editing correctly as well. The storyboard gave me an idea on what effects and transitions would be needed and where as well. Even though I filmed all of the shots in my storyboard, I noticed during editing that the shots I filmed and planned together didn't really flow that well. Because of that, I then went out again and filmed a couple of more shots such as some scenic shots so the overall piece could flow well together. I also noticed that the shots I filmed and planned to put together didn't really work. For example, I planned to have a school bell shot at the beginning, but after editing that in I realised that it didn't work. Therefor I made the decision to cut that shot out and not include it into the piece. I also made the decision while editing to either cut out some scenes or shorten them, as I felt they were either unnecessarily too long or the scene didn't make sense.

Another documentation I used was a production schedule. I used this a lot before the day of filming as it helped me schedule everything I needed on the day of filming, who I needed and what I will be going to film. This also helped my cast and crew as well as it gave them a basic over view of the filming
day. Because the production schedule also said what scenes we were going to film it helped my actors as they knew what kind of scenes they would need to prepare and rehearse before filming. The production schedule also gave me information on which locations we would be filming on. This was helpful as on the day of filming it gave me an idea of where I should shoot first. For example, in one day I would need to shoot in the music hall, atrium and outside on the field. Because I had 3 different locations in one day I decided to first film in the atrium and field first as they were closest together walking distance wise, and then lastly shoot in the music hall. |
