First Media Product: Guardian App (Journalism)
In detail what the actual purpose of the product is
"Specially crafted for iPhone, iPad, this app brings you breaking news and full access to all of the Guardian's award-winning content." This was the statement made by the guardian when it comes to the purpose of the app.The main purpose of the product though is to inform the public about the new that is happening locally and globally. The product falls under Journalism, meaning that it focuses on news stories, whether it is political, celebrity or lifestyle. All types of news is to be distributed on to this product. The other platforms this interactive product is available on and which is your preference The product also has a website, and it can be accessed on iPhones, iPads, laptops, computers, desktops and Microsoft computers. I don't think that the app is accessed through Android products as it says that the app itself is tailored to Apple products. My preference would be the app on the iPad or iPhone as it is easy to navigate, with very clear tabs and a easy to understand menu. Also, the app looks aesthetically pleasing. |
The design components and layout and your experience of it.
The design layout of the app is that The Guardians logo is on the top right side and the current and recently updated news story is on the top. There are also some tabs on the left side of the app where all news stories are arranged under the certain categories such as world, sport, culture ect. The colours used in the app are just navy blue and white, where the font used is easy to read and clear to read as well. Pictures are also used a lot, where it separates the news stories. My opinion on the layout is that it is easy for me to navigate and it gets me to a certain news story efficiently. The colours and font used are very sophisticated looking, professional. Everything looks aesthetically pleasing however it doesn't look exciting as it doesn't used any bright colours or funky fonts. To me the colours and the font look boring |

The effectiveness of the interactive product I feel that the interactive product is quite effective, as I feel that it is now very easy for me to be updated on the news and know what is going on globally, no matter the time or where I am. The app now allows to know the news going on as well as I don't watch the news nor do I read newspapers, meaning that I am not normally updated on news stories. I feel that I have befitted a lot from this app, meaning that the app is very effective when it comes to distributing the news. Also, because it is tailer to Apple products meaning that I can use a lot because I do own a lot of Apple products. However, I feel that if a person doesn't have any Apple products and uses Android instead I feel that this product wouldn't be effective at all as they wouldn't be able to access it. |

The effectiveness of the interactive product In my opinion I feel that this product is very effectives I use it everyday and constantly. Mainly because it allows me to know what my friends and family are doing and it also allows me to talk to them and eb able to interact with other pole. Because I am always out, I find that I use the app a lot because it it is very convent for on the go instead of using the website. Also, accessing the website on the phone means that the layout is very different and hard to understand. I feel that Facebook is very easy for me to talk to and interact with other poet which was their main purpose, so I feel that Facebook is very effective. |

Are there any legal and ethical issues of the interactive product? One legal issue that can occur with the Facebook app is Privacy. Because Facebook is such a global app and is being used by millions of people each day, there is a chance the privacy can be an issue. This is because users may be able to tamper with other users Facebook accounts and go through there profile. Also, because lots of people post what they want on Facebook, there is an issue where a user can invade another users Facebook and upload a picture of them without their permission. One other issue issue is that slander and libel can occur, a person is able to say something about another person that slanders them. Meaning that defamation of character can happen on Facebook, because anyone can talk about anyone on Facebook and is allowed to say whatever they want.Another issue is the protection of children. Because anyone can go on Facebook, including children, it means that children can be exposed to things that they shouldn't be exposed to such as violence and inappropriate language. Facebook should be careful on what is shown on Facebook and they should be able to filter out all the inappropriate things in Facebook so that children are protected. |

The effectiveness of the interactive product I feel that Ebay is very effective as I do use it a lot. It allows me to be able to buy any item, and all the items I need are on Ebay and are within a reasonable price. Also, because it is on the app it means that I am able to make purchases on the go, no matter where I am. Also because it is on the phone it is very easy from to upload a photo of a product I am wanting to sell, instead of doing it on a computer which takes longer and is a bit more complicated. |

Are there any legal and ethical issues of the interactive product? One legal issue that can occur on Ebay is intellectual property. Because any one can upload any product/item there is a chance of an intellectual property issue that occur. This is because a user can upload a item that belongs to a company and that user does not have the rights to sell that product without the companies permission. Ebay has to be clear on what a user can and can't sell and should inform the seller of any intellectual property issues. Another legal issue is discrimination, discrimination can occur if a seller refuses to sell their product to a customer because of their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity etc. Ebay has to monitor what is going on, so that discrimination does not occur. One other issue is privacy, because users have to sign up to sell or buy something on Ebay they would need to put in their personal information and their card details in order to make a purchase. Ebay has to make sure that they do not release any information about the user without their permission. Ebay also has to make sure that they do not look into the users bank details on anything else when it comes to their privacy. |

The design components and layout.
The layout of the computer and the iPhone are very different, yet both have some similarities. For example, both products do have the same colours and font type; font is easy to read and the colours are blue, orange, black and white. Another similarity is that there are different tabs for the country, education stage and subject there is.However,for the app the tabs are different pages where the user has to go through them all in order to start revising. Instead of having a similar layout to the computer, where all the sections are on the homepage.
Another difference is that with the app the user has to go through multiple slides in order to get to the information, whereas for the website all the information is under one button.

The interactive features of the product
In my opinion, I feel that the app happens to be more interactive than the website. This is because as soon as the app is open, it requires the user to sign in or register in order to use the app. For the website on the other hand, it doesn't really require the user to sign in or register, they can use it for free. However, both the website and the app do have quizzes, where the user can quiz themselves on what they've learned.

The interactive features of the product
The game itself is very interactive as it requires users to swipe the gems n order to get some points and to finish the level, the game itself is very interactive in the app and on the online version. Both also have the option to sign in to their Facebook account, meaning that the user can connect to Facebook and play against their friends. This is interactive as it requires the suer to actually type in and sign up. Another interactive feature that both the app and the website has is the fact that the user can scroll through the map and select what stage and level they want to go in. However, on the computer when hovering over buttons it says what the button is and what the purpose of that button is, the app doesn't do this. The effectiveness of the interactive product
I feel that both the app and the website are very effective as both are very similar to one another and both have a lot of interactive features. I don't feel that the app and the website should change too much, but if I ad to change one thing I would maybe add in more games to the app, So that the user has a variety of games to choose from. |

The layout of the website and the app are quite similar. For example, for the website it shows a screenshot of the game and 2 buttons where a user can either play straight away or they could sign, this is the same for the app however instead having a screen shot of the game for the background the background is of some hills and trees. Both have the sam colour schemes, being bright and bold using a lot of oranges and yellows. The font is also the same, which is easy to read and understand.Another similarity is that once a user clicks the button to play it goes straight to the game, where the game itself has the same gems and layout. The layout of the website and the app are very similar to one another. It not shows a general home page, with tabs of the different channels that are under ITV. Also, on the website ad the app the user can scroll down on the homepage to find the latest TV shows that have been aired. Both also have the same colour scheme, black, grey and white with hints of bright colours such s red. I feel that because of this colour scheme it makes the app and the website look professional whilst still having a fun element to it. The font type being used is easy and clear to read as well. The logo of ITV is on the tope left of the screens and it is clear for threader to read. The interactive features of the product
I find that there are maybe more interactive features on the app than the website. For example on the app it asks the user whether or not to notify the user when a live show is airing or when a new episode has been uploaded. It also allows the user to download TV shows onto there phone. However there are a lot of similar interactive features on both the app and the website. For example both have a search bar, where users can type in what TV shows they want to watch. Another interactive future is that the user can sign in, a be able to tailer their ITV account t themselves. However, one interactive feature that the website has that the app doesn't is the fact that the user can share the TV show onto their social medias. |

The layout of the website version and the version on Apple TV is quite different. Even though both show the latest episodes of TV shows on the homepage, the Apple TV version has a column that has a lot of interactive features whilst the website version doesn't. Another thing is that on the app version it allows users to see the top trending TV episodes this week whilst the Apple TV version doesn't. However, both versions do have have at the top a list of categories where the suer can sort out any individual TV shows they want. The layout is similar reading this. The interactive features of the product
I feel that there are much more interactive features on the Apple TV version than the app version. Even though both versions have a search bar at the top which allows users to search what TV show they want, the Apple TV version allows the user to cater the player to the users wants and needs. For example, the user can add their favourite TV shows onto the player, meaning that all of their favourite TV shows are in one section. Another is that it shows the user what they gave recently watched and it keeps track of their watching history for them. |
